What Are Pedal Kayaks?

Viking EcoTours uses pedal kayaks so exploring Florida’s scenic waterways is effortless and fun for guests of all ages. Guests simply pedal with their hands free to take pictures, drink water, or point out the wildlife. Our guided kayak tours create safe, comfortable, and unique experiences while guaranteeing an environmentally friendly tour. Viking EcoTours is a proud partner of Leave No Trace and a member of 1% for the Planet and the Florida Society for Ethical Ecotourism.

Pedal Kayaks & Equipment

Our kayaks are sit-on-top style and powered by pedal propulsion systems with Kick-Up Fin technology. These pedal kayaks are steered with a simple hand lever that controls the kayak rudder. All of our pedal kayaks are structurally reinforced, double sealed, and have breathable full-back beach chairs that are triple-locked onto the kayak for a secure ride. Plus there’s a spare aluminum paddle,

Our pedal kayaks are stable, silent, and safe to provide you with a smooth ride and effortless experience on your guided kayak tour for a chance to see manatees, dolphins, and more. We’re here to make your trip safe, easy, and memorable with our guided kayak tours around the islands and mangroves of Canaveral National Seashore.

Are The Tours Environmentally Friendly?

Yes! Viking EcoTours is a member of the Florida Society for Ethical Ecotourism and a listed Guides and Outfitter Partner with Leave No Trace.

Our guides are certified by Leave No Trace and their training meets standards from the National Park Service to provide safe, fun, and environmentally friendly kayak tours for all guests.

Where Do Your Tours Go?

We change routes to minimize impact on National Park Service resources and maximize the quality of the kayak tour. We do this by considering varying conditions such as weather, guests physical ability, attractions, seasonal wildlife, boat traffic, and Park Service suggestions. This requires more skills from your kayak tour guides but it makes every tour unique and protects the natural resources in Canaveral National Seashore.

Do you take extra steps for safety?

We plan our tours so all kayaks and guests are compliant with regulations set by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, United States Coast Guard (USCG), and additional recommendations listed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. The safety list that people can use is 7012A – Paddle Craft Vessel Safety Check.

All Kayaks are fitted with closed-cell marine foam blocks for buoyancy, equipped with decklines/bungee cords for securing belongings, and have reinforced points on the hull (keel). All kayaks are equipped with both a Hobie Mirage pedal system and a paddle. The kayaks can be steered with a rudder, or guests can paddle if they choose.

All passengers and guides wear USCG approved type II or III personal flotation device (PFD). All PFDs (lifejackets) have an attached whistle (sound signal), reflective material, and are equipped with a headlamp visible up to 1 mile that can emit red light, flashing red light, white light, and has a preprogrammed white light SOS signal to function as a visual distress signal (VDS). All guides have current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification and have completed a boater safety course that is NASBLA approved and meets U.S. Boating Education Standards, such as United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety courses.
